Privacy Policy

Overview
At Stepify, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our Chrome extension for creating screenshots and documentation.
Information We Don't Collect
Stepify is designed with privacy as a core principle. We want to be clear about what we DON'T do:
- We do NOT collect any screenshots you capture
- We do NOT collect any captions or text you enter
- We do NOT track your browsing history
- We do NOT collect personal information (name, email, etc.)
- We do NOT send any data to external servers
- We do NOT use analytics or tracking tools
- We do NOT sell or share any data with third parties
How Stepify Works
All data processing happens locally on your device:
- Screenshots: Captured and stored in your browser's local storage
- Captions: Saved locally alongside your screenshots
- Export Files: Generated on your device and downloaded directly to your computer
- Session Data: Temporarily stored in browser memory and cleared when you close the extension
Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share the exported files.
Permissions Explained
Stepify requires certain permissions to function. Here's why we need each one:
Data Storage
All data is stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API:
- Screenshots are stored as base64-encoded images
- Data persists until you manually clear it using the "Clear All" button
- Clearing your browser data will also remove Stepify's stored captures
- No data is synced across devices or backed up to any server
Third-Party Services
Stepify does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks. The extension is completely self-contained and operates entirely offline.
The only external libraries used are:
- jsPDF: For generating PDF files locally in your browser
- JSZip: For creating ZIP archives locally in your browser
Both libraries run entirely in your browser and do not send data anywhere.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Stepify after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Open Source
Stepify's code is transparent and can be inspected at any time by viewing the extension files in your Chrome extensions folder. We believe in transparency and want you to be able to verify our privacy claims.
